7 December 2012

I have been working on shop models and not blogging. Sorry about that.

I'm almost finished with Prism's Monet Jacket. I'm knitting the Jewel colorway but Laura will create any colorway you would like. So far the original colorway (why it's named Monet) and the Jewel colorway have been the most popular. But, if you want a purple, or green or red jacket she'll be glad to oblige.

The pattern for the Re-leaf Scarf has been tested and corrected. I've ordered more of the colorway that I knit the sample out of but you're free to be creative. We have in the second colorway called Apple Rose that will look beautiful. The sample colorway is called Wild Cherry. Blue Ridge Yarns  has several colorways available so stop by to see what they have to offer and I can show you the model in progress.

I've started MY double knitting project. It's from an old McCall's magazine. I would like develop a double knitting class from this project. If you've always been curious about double knitting, stop by and see what I'm doing. We can talk and your input will be helpful.

I know that this is a hectic season with all of the holidays coming. If you need to decompress from shopping, relatives, etc. just stop by the shop and sit and knit with us. You can knit away the tension and stress that this time of year might bring. The shop is a great place to pause and catch your breath.

Happy Holidays

After Sandy.

2 November 2012

We hope everyone fared well in the storm. All is OK here at the store. (Yay!)

Unfortunately, not all of our vendors are up and running again so if there’s an order we’re trying to place for you, please be patient. Once we can complete the orders, we will.

We have new yarns and models in the shop to come see. From Cascade Yarns we received Venezia Worsted in several lovely colors. To go with that, we have a model of the Venezia Worsted Flared Bottom V-Neck 1 Button Cardigan (W19), which is a free pattern on their site.  Ask us to show you the Lana d'Oro model and yarns as well if you haven't seen them already.

We are reintroducing Fiesta Yarns! This includes the new and improved La Boheme (ask us how it has improved), as well as La Luz which is their beautiful kettle dyed 100% spun silk. We'll post again when we're ready to have you come "ooh" and "ahhh" over the beautiful colors.

Several yarns on sale for 50% off throughout the store. Stop by and help us make room for the new yarns.

Frankenstorm is on its way! Are you ready to knit in the dark? We have a couple of battery powered OTT lights in stock to keep you knitting through any power outages that happen. Stop by before we close on Sunday if you want them as that’s when the storm is predicted to arrive (plus we’re closed on Monday and Tuesday).
Happy Knitting!

5 September 2012

We have been very busy placing new yarns on the shelf.

With the new yarns we have new models in the shop!

From Cascade Yarns, we have a lovely sweater called “Weekend Classic”by Susie Bonnell knit with Lana D’Oro. This yarn is 50% Alpaca and 50% Wool which we’ve stocked in several lovely colors. This is a free pattern. There are great patterns for this yarn on the Cascade web site.

From Tahki Stacy Charles, we have the Anaïs Cowl-Collar Vest designed by Irina Poludnenko and knit in their new yarn called Adele. This refined tonal version of Ritratto has the added elegance of multicolored paillettes.
This vest only uses four balls of yarn for the large size!

Stop in and ask to see our new products. We’d love to show you.

I have written a pattern for a "swirl" scarf that uses Footprint yarn from Blue Ridge Yarns. I've decided to call it the "Re-Leaf" scarf. I'm in the process of knitting shop's model so I can't show you a finished piece. I will be washing and blocking the bit that I have knitted and will include a picture in the next blog. If you can't wait that long, stop by and I will show you what I have knitted so far. It is easy to knit because 95% of the knitting is garter stitch!

Hope  to see you soon.

28 September 2012

Fall is upon us and the days are filled with much to do.

I've been receiving my fall yarn shipments. New items and yarn are arriving weekly.

DON'T FORGET THE FALL PORCH PARTY THIS SATURDAY THE 29th. It will be all day and the weather looks like it will be perfect for porch knitting. Cookies and tea will be available as always. Come share your work and ideas with others and have a great time meeting other knitters and stitchers.

The knitting with Swarovski Crystals classes are almost completely booked. The only openings left are in the afternoons after the first class finishes.  And, there are just a few openings. If  you wanted to take the class and were hesitating I would suggest making a decision quickly. I really hate to disappoint a knitter.

Yes, I will be offering the class, several times, after the first of the year. So you will have future opportunities.  I did leave off  the cost of the class - sorry. The cost of the Bead knitting and Swarovski class is $35, not including the cost of materials.

The last question frequently asked is, "How much are the crystals?" The cost of a gross (a gross is 144) of crystals, which is what you need for the scarf, ranges from $17 - $29 dollars depending on the color.  One ball of lace weight yarn will knit at least two scarves.

Hope to see many of you this Saturday.

Bob

18 August 2012

Rowan magazine #52 is here with beautiful patterns. This issue has more classic types of sweaters than in the past.

Two other pattern books from Rowan have arrived. Persian Nights makes use of Kid Silk Haze. A wonderfully soft kid mohair and silk in a lace weight. And, Easy Winter Knits makes use of bulky yarns in easy to knit sweaters, scarves and hats.

James Brett's Marble Chunky is a bulky acrylic with great patterns for adults and children. This is a machine washable and dryable yarn that is marled and changes color at the same time. The patterns are simple and quick to knit. Just right for that quick fall sweater.

Colorspun is Rowan's wool version of the Brett's chunky yarn but in a DK weight. If you don't like the look of chunky weight yarns, then this will provide the same effect but in a lighter weight yarn. The James Brett patterns for the DK weight are just what you need for that special sweater.

More yarns will be arriving soon so stay posted.

New yarn has arrived for childrens' wear. This yarn is DK weight and will either stripe or make a stripe and fair isle like pattern across the knitted surface. There are great patterns for babies and toddlers.

Also,  we have the solution to the baby blanket problem.  How about one ball of yarn (892 yds!) for a blanket. This is a blend of mostly acrylic with a bit of wool. Machine washable and dryable and knits on a US 8.

There is a great new pattern for a knitted slipper. You'd never guess, when knitted, that it is a slipper. Stop by and take a look. These will make great simple-to-knit gifts. This makes a great vacation project. One ball of yarn for all but the biggest size.

12 July 2012

Just a note that folks seemed to have had a great time at the sit and knit. It was waaaaay too hot outside so we filled the chairs in the shop with knitters. There were plenty of good things to eat and ice tea to help keep cool.

Thank you to all who came. I had a great time talking with you and seeing your projects.

Don't forget that my anniversary sale will go through the end of the month. Each week the sale items change so your next visit might yield a treasure in savings.

4 July 2012

DON'T FORGET! This Saturday and Sunday are Sit and Knit days at the shop.  I will have plenty of iced tea and cookies for munching. There will  be fans on the  porch so unless it is blisteringly hot, the porch will be nice.

Today is the start of my Anniversary Sale. Each week there are several items marked down. And, each week these items change. Stop by and see what will tempt you.

I can say that Friday's storm was an interesting experience. The shop lost power for two days and I still have no power at home as of this morning. We suffered no damage at the house or at the shop. In fact the storm didn't seem to be that bad at the house. The phone/data lines at the house have been down since Friday too, but this morning on the way to the shop there were several crews trying to remove the 24" diameter tree that took down the phone line.

A generator at home keeps  the vital systems going except for AC. It hasn't been that bad. The house has only gotten up to 85 degrees. Survivable with fans and lots of cool things to drink with plenty of ice.

See you this weekend!

It's finally here! The long awaited for revised edition of The Principles of Knitting.

This book was first published in the 80's and was sold out quickly. As little as a year ago it was selling for hundreds of dollars on ebay.

This revised edition has pictures of the knitting techniques instead of drawings, much easier to understand. This is not a pattern book but a book about technique - one of the ultimate reference books that you will ever own. I cannot imaging any knitter not having this book on their bookshelf.
