HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

We wanted to remind everyone that we'll be closed on Christmas Day and New Year's Day, both of which fall on a Wednesday this year. Because we're normally closed on Mondays and Tuesdays, we want you to be prepared for us to be closed THREE days in a row.

So, your last day to shop here for Christmas will be Sunday, December 22, 2013. Please plan accordingly. We're ready!

8 December 2013

Better to be safe than sorry. I will be closed today.

Warm winter yarns are still arriving.

I do have a supply of Lumio reflective yarn. This yarn knits a great hat that can be easily seen, in the dark, when struck by light. A great gift that can keep someone safe if they're outside in the dark during the winter months. The easy pattern is inside the label.

I've knit several and it takes about three hours to knit one and that includes making the pompom.

24 November 2013

Here's wishing you all a wonderful Thanksgiving.

We will be open on Wednesday the 27, closed Thanksgiving day (no early open Black Friday here!) and open again during regular store hours Friday through Sunday.

Another beautiful yarn arrived on Friday (sorry I'm late with the news). Blue Ridge Yarns "Silk Shimmer Lace".

I'm slightly tongue-tied trying to  describe this yarn. The color ......, the feel ....... I really can't even begin to describe the yarn it is just ........ wonderful! The skein is 1000 yards, more than enough for a shawl of moderate size.

This colorway is called Persian Princess. Unfortunately, the picture doesn't do it any justice but it is the best that can be done. This truly is yarn that has to be seen and touched.

Don't forget the Sit and Knit the Saturday and Sunday after Thanksgiving!

15 November 2013

More yarn has arrived!

Kid Silk Haze Eclipse with a shimmering metallic thread is on the shelves. This is a luscious and soft yarn that can be knit anywhere from 18 - 25 sts/inch.

Rowan has produced a Mini Collection to compliment the yarn with some elegant designs.

Fiesta BabyBoom fingering weight yarn is here in Spirit of the Southwest colors. These are just the incredible colors and just right for brightening up your winter blahs.
Keeping with fingering weight yarns, Blue Ridge Yarns Footlight is on the shelf. This is a local yarn and I think they really have fun with color. Here's a sample:

This colorway is called Apple Rose and the colors are even better in person.

Don't forget the Sit and Knit Thanksgiving Weekend. Come to the shop, sit, relax and let the tension disappear. Share stories and knitting while sampling Stacy Charles yarns.

Looking forward to seeing you.

More yarn has arrived! The shop now has the new Pure Alpaca by Cascade Yarns. This is just the softest baby alpaca yarn and it can be knit at either 5 or 5.5 stitches to the inch and has 220 yards to the skein. This yarn is just a dream to knit. Need a scarf or a neck gator – this is the yarn for you!

Cascade has many great patterns that use this yarn and the patterns are FREE!

Don't forget that the shop will be open Friday - Sunday after Thanksgiving and we will be having a Sit & Knit and a Yarn Tasting of Stacy Charles Yarn! Come join in the fun!

4 November 2013

Halloween is behind us and Thanksgiving is just ahead. The weather is turning cold and now is the time to start knitting socks, scarves, cowls and hats. These are simple projects completed quickly and can be salted away for that special gift.

Starting on Saturday, November 30th we will be having a Stacy Charles yarn tasting. There will be yarns for you to sit and knit with - test if you wish. What a great way to try out a new fall yarn. We'll try to include a few surprise yarns

At the same time on November 30 and December 1, we will be having a sit and knit. Just what you will need - a calm environment to relax in and knit. Just what you need after a holiday.

Remember, you can always ask to test knit a yarn that we have in the shop. All you have to do is ask!

I hope to see you Thanksgiving weekend.

And:
This is pure fun knitting!

10 October 2013

The new yarns just keep rolling in.

The newest yarn is Regia Designer Line Random Stripe by Kaffe Fassett. This is another sock yarn with colors that only Kaffe Fassett can do. So, if you're thinking of socks for gifts or another lightweight scarf or shawlette, this is the yarn.

This color is called heathers and is one of the six colors of the Designer Line. All six colors are in stock now.

And LUMIO, wow. That yarn is hard to keep in stock. The last two colors arrived today. STOP is a red (figures doesn't it) and CAYENNE which is a warm brown. So if the bright neon like colors have been stopping you, Cayenne just might do the trick.

5 October 2013

I was so busy yesterday that I didn't get to post about the newest yarn that just arrived. The yarn is called SOUK. This is a silk/wool blend. Notice that I said silk/wool and not wool/silk. This yarn is 55% silk!

The silk gives this yarn radiant colors. You just can't beat the depth and brilliance of colors when silk is the major component of a blend yarn. The yarn is a single ply and knits to 4 sts/inch.

The colors are long period repeat and tweeded for a richness that will make any item that you knit just sing.

There are several colors and we've knitted up a small sample. Stop by when you have a moment and take a look.

Another shipment of Alpaca Lace has arrived and you just can beat the price and this is baby alpaca. There are 437 yards of lusciously soft yarn in a 50 gm ball.

I know that it is not very cold right now but Winter is coming so stock up now.

And finally, Berroco Abode has arrived. This is another single ply yarn that is 100% merino wool and knits a 4.5 sts/inch. We're knitting a model from the Gaughan #13 book called Merle. We think it is just striking and the Abode color that we're using makes it even better.

Here's a close-up of the Abode color that we're knitting the model out of:

The yarn is cuddly soft and and the sweater is just gorgeous.

25 September 2013

HOORAY! It's finally here.

The trunk show for Ornamental Knits beaded Christmas Ornaments has finally arrived. I will have the trunk show through November.

We didn't even have up the display and the kits were flying out the door. So, if you wanted to see the kits you better hurry down to the shop before all of the  "good" ones are gone. Well, they're all good, let's just say your "favorite" ones are gone.

There is still time for me to order kits if your favorite kit has gone missing. But, as the clock counts down there will be less and less of a chance of getting the kit you most wanted.

DON'T FORGET THE PORCH PARTY!

This Saturday September 28, 10 - 5 pm. Tea and cookies will be served. It look like there will be great weather for this weekend so please do come down and have a great time. The porch is just a great place to sit and knit and make new friends, renew friendships and just watch the world go by.

18 September 2013

A new book arrived today along with new yarn.

Jean Frost has written a new book about stitches. The book Stitches for Tailored Knits explains how stitches can be used for a structured fabric. These are not new stitches, they're just presented in a way to explain how they are used to create a fabric of knitting.

More new yarn has arrived! Rowan has a new hand-dyed sock yarn. This yarn is a blend of wool, mohair and silk with just a touch of nylon for durability. This is yarn is hand painted in breathtaking colors that just make it unique. Because it is hand painted the yarn stripes randomly.

If you wish to read about how and where this yarn is made, please follow this link.

Nothing to worry about!

You want to see this link. The Sixth Street bridge in Pittsburgh was YARN BOMBED. You have to see the pictures. It is just incredible!

Does this give you any ideas??????

Okay, I know that I have dedicated customers. But, I never knew how dedicated until Melinda showed me this:
WOW!
(If you can't figure out what you're seeing, it's the shop logo as a tattoo.)

6 September 2013

Want to take the Swarovski Crystals class and you think it's too late to order crystals? Well, it's not! We have several colors of crystals in stock - not every color, but we have some of the basic colors.

So don't let the two week order time scare you. Stop by the shop and choose a yarn and pick the crystals that match. Grab your size nine needles and you're ready to go.

See you next Sunday!

5 September 2013

New yarn arrived today!

We have Berroco's Brio. Each brilliantly dyed colorway of this thick and thin wool blend is infused with glittering metallic strands that are completely soft to the touch.

This is a super bulky yarn that knits at 2.5 stitches to the inch. Great for hats, and scarves. This will  add a bit of pizazz to a gloomy winter day.

30 August 2013

Don't forget!

Tomorrow and Sunday there's a Sit and Knit at the shop during store hours. Not going anywhere for Labor Day? Make Hunt Country Yarns your destination. At least you're out of the house sharing time with great folks and knitting.

What could be better?

Wednesday, August 21, 2013

21 August 2013

The new yarn just keep rolling in.

The newest addition is a wonderfully soft baby yarn that is a chunky chenille. It's called Flutterby by James Brett. This yarn is soooooo soft it's hard to believe that you can machine wash and dry it. And, because it's chunky the projects usually just take two balls and are quick to knit.

Here's a picture of a great blanket that has a hood. It takes just two balls of Flutterby!

How can you resist?

Saturday, August 17, 2013

17 August 2013

Wow! The store just got in a great yarn. It will be the hit of the year. It's called Lumio. This is a super bulky yarn that knits up quickly into a hat (the pattern is in the label). The best part of this yarn is that it has a reflective strand running through the yarn. Here's a picture of the yarn:

Not much to see. But, it's those little 'white' flecks that do all of the reflecting:

Here's the same ball with a bright light on it. All I can say is, "Wow!"

What you're looking at is a 'guy' color of navy but we have (and can get) brighter colors.

Let me know what you think. Give a call: 540 253-9990.

Friday, July 19, 2013

18 July 2013

New baby yarn arrived today. It's called Pinwheel. This is an acrylic yarn that has a long color change and is marled at the same time. Just great for that shower gift sweater or blanket.

If you don't have a blanket pattern, Cascade Yarns just published a new 60 Quick Baby Blankets book that has some great ideas.

It's nice and cool in the shop and we're hoping for cooler (well, less hot) weather this weekend. It's just a great time to sit inside sipping your favorite cool drink and knit.

See ya' soon.

18 July 2013

More new yarns will be arriving soon. I've been picking out the best of the best.

A new yarn to arrive this week is Lang Mille Color. This is a fingering weight that will be great for lace or socks. Here is a link to Lang's page with the colors available.

It is hard to see in the pictures but there is a fine metallic thread that runs with the yarn and gives it that extra special touch. Not too much, just enough.

Don't forget! My Anniversary Sale continues through the month of July. So stop by and get some great deals in yarn.

And, if you're having a bad hair day, just remember, it could always be worse!

Sit and Knit

5 July 2013

Here's hoping you all had a great 4th of July.

Don't forget, Saturday and Sunday will be a Sit and Knit at the shop. It's too hot for a Porch Party. This will be just sitting in the shop and knitting with friends, sharing pattern ideas and knitting stories.

Sit and Knit helps with decompressing from the holiday and prepares you for the upcoming week. Just a pleasant calm day at the shop.

Hunt Country Yarns Anniversary Sale is now in session and will continue throughout the month. Each week there will be new items on sale. It changes from week to week so to get the best deals visit often.

One good bit of news is that Hunt Country Yarns is in Fauquier County and did not have a sales tax increase to 6%. The sales tax here is only 5.3%. Shopping here you can save on your sales tax if you live in Loudoun, Fairfax or Prince William Counties. Every little bit helps.

23 May 2013

This weekend is Memorial Day weekend and the weather is suppose to be balmy (about 70 degrees). Whoohoo! Just the right temperature to make the porch a wonderful place to sit and knit.

Why don't you avoid traffic and come to the shop for a wonderful day on the porch.

I still have Prism and Mountain Colors yarns that I had at Maryland Sheep and Wool. If you didn't get a chance to see the yarns there, stop by the shop and take a look.

Hope to see you on Saturday or Sunday.

Don't forget, I will be closed on Monday.

Saturday, May 18, 2013

18 May 2013

More new yarns have arrived!

I've been waiting for these yarns for almost three months.

The first is from Manos.  Alegria is a hand-dyed vari-colored yarn in the tradition of Manos. This is a superwash merino and polyamid (read nylon) fingering (sock) weight yarn. They have some wild colors that are just right for a summer project. One skein does a pair of socks (445 yds).

The second is Zen Yarn Garden. This is what some of you have been asking for.  Serenity 20 is a superwash merino, cashmere and nylon blend fingering weight yarn. These hand-dyed colors are really rich. I have been told (by Lyn) that this yarn would be great for the Color Affection Shawl on Ravelry. I think it would be great for the Rockefeller Shawl. Opinions, you know what they are worth......

Just ask and we'll show you where they are.

Don't forget that we still have Prism in as a trunk show for a little bit longer.

See you soon.

Wednesday, May 8, 2013

8 May 2013

It's "Sit and Knit" this coming Saturday! Rain or shine the porch will be ready. Remember, it can be raining (it's suppose to be 76) and we can still sit on the porch. No motorcycles if it is raining! Ah, the soft sound of rain.

There will be goodies, as always. Because it is suppose to be warm, we'll have iced tea available.

If you missed Maryland Sheep and Wool, I will still have my consignments here so no need to panic that you've missed something.

So come on down and have a great time with fellow knitters and crocheters.

See you Saturday May 11.

Wednesday, March 27, 2013

27 March 2013

Don't forget!

This Saturday and Sunday are "Sit and Knit" days at the shop. Just a pleasant way to spend a holiday weekend.

See you then.......

23 March 2013

Just arrived, sock and shawl bundles from The Unique Sheep! The shawl bundles are Green Sheep Fingering in the Tart Berry Gradients colorway. We’re going to work this up in a sample for the store very soon. At the request of a customer, we’ve brought in the Verve Gradients in color Glee. This happens to be the same yarn and colorway featured in the Gluttony Socks pattern from Sock Club: Join the Knitting Adventure. Aren’t they pretty?

Tell us what you think......

22 March 2013

I just thought I would remind you that we will be open Easter weekend with a Sit-And-Knit both days. If it is nice outside (who can guess with this weather) the porch will  be available.

I  often see knitters trying to pull yarn from the center of a yarn ball. Most yarn balls are not made to be pulled from the center - especially the balls shaped like a bagel.

I don't advise pulling any ball from the center. If you are knitting two strands of yarn together and it is to be knitted doubled then pulling from the center and outside will not waste yarn.

The problem I see knitters having when pulling from the center is the yarn collapse rat's nest - especially if you are traveling with the yarn. If you consider that you are hollowing out the inside of a ball, then it will eventually collapse. If the yarn plays nicely, then it might not be a problem if the yarn ball is never moved. Most balls of yarn do not play nicely when they are being moved around and the collapse makes a tangled mess.

My advise, just let the ball roll around in your knitting bag. It makes for less frustration.

21 March 2013

So much for Spring, it's cold outside!

Aside from the cold, more Summer yarn has arrived. Rowan's Softknit Cotton has arrived. This really is the softest cotton that I've ever experienced and it will hold its shape. No more droopy cotton!

The patterns for this yarn are great. We're knitting a summer vest called "Killarney" in color Lupin (a soft lavender). Just ask and we'll show you.

Rowan Magazine No. 53 has arrived with Softknit Cotton. The magazine has all of your favorite designers including several by Kaffe Fassett.

I have a new surprise yarn arriving. I just ordered a little bit to see if you'll like the fiber and the colors. I will keep you posted as to when it arrives.

Keep warm!

Friday, March 8, 2013

8 March 2013

You asked for it so I brought it in. We now carry Vineyard Silk for you needlepointers. If I don't have enough or if I am missing your favorite color don't worry. I'll just order the color I'm missing. Not a problem.

Another shipment of Prism Yarn arrived! This time it is the absolutely beautiful Euroflax Linen in lace weight. Each skein is 580 yards - enough for a shoulder wrap or a lacey shawlette for summer when the A/C is just a bit too cold.

This is a machine washable and dryable yarn. The more that it is washed and dried the softer and it will become and the drape will increase. Almost like silk.

Laura has dyed these skeins using her new Layers colors. These are just the richest colors that you can imagine. The depth of color is gorgeous. Ask to see these colors.

I am promised real color samples of the new colors. I expect them shortly.

Saturday, March 2, 2013

2 March 2013

Oops! I forgot to mention one more model being knit for the shop out of a new yarn. It is Softknit Cotton made by Rowan.

The model is being knit in color Lupin in an aran vest called "Killarney" from Rowan's new magazine Softknit Collection. The magazine is a wonderful collection of sweaters for both men and women. This magazine is a keeper!

This cotton yarn is wonderfully soft and holds its shape - hard to believe. The secret is just a small amount of polyamide (think nylon) mixed with the cotton. It makes the yarn soft and resilient.

The yarn should be here in time for your spring knitting.

Thursday, February 28, 2013

28 February 2013

New yarns are slowly arriving. We've knit two models out of Berroco's new Karma cotton tape. This is a great yarn and is fast to knit. Berroco has a book just for this yarn. Stop by and see what we've created.

Berroco has discontinued Origami. One of our models was a very popular sweater using Berroco. Well, not to worry. Berroco has as new yarn called Captiva and Captiva Metallic. We've chosen to knit the model named "kiama" out of Captiva Metallic. The whole Origami book's patterns will translate to this new yarn without a problem. We can show you the model in progress. When you're here ask to see it.

We have a new yarn from Manos that we're trying out. The yarn is a blend of merino and silk in lace weight called Fino. It is a soft single ply yarn and we are knitting a shawlette from Ravelry called Holden designed by Mindy Wilkes (this is a free pattern from Ravelry). This is another beautiful example of stitch patterning that is just pleasing to the eye. Ask and we'll show you the progress.

Mountain Colors Coat of Many Colors from the book Knit Swirl. The shop model will be in the color Wild Rose, knit in a combination of Mountain Goat and Twizzle. Mountain Colors has seven different colorways for this kit (the kit does not include the pattern). You can see the colors here. The project can seem daunting because all of the stitches can fit on a 47" needle. Ask to see the work in progress.

We're working hard to have models of the new yarns for your viewing. So, if you see us sitting at the front table knitting, ask, it is most likely to become a model for the shop.

23 January 2013

It's still hard to believe that it is 2013 but I will get use to it.

It's cold but it could be worse. This is great weather for staying indoors in front of a fire knitting and working on needlepoint.

GOOD NEWS!!!!!

Paternayan needlepoint yarn is now back in production. They have started with a limited number of colors (less than 30) and will build back up to the 418 colors that is their standard. It does take time when you are starting all over again.

There has been no price increase!

I have ordered, from the first list of what they have started dyeing, the colors that I am missing. Black and two off-whites might be the most popular along with the 968 red.

I will keep you posted when more of the colors are ready.

The best news is that Paternayan is still with us!
