23 May 2013

This weekend is Memorial Day weekend and the weather is suppose to be balmy (about 70 degrees). Whoohoo! Just the right temperature to make the porch a wonderful place to sit and knit.

Why don't you avoid traffic and come to the shop for a wonderful day on the porch.

I still have Prism and Mountain Colors yarns that I had at Maryland Sheep and Wool. If you didn't get a chance to see the yarns there, stop by the shop and take a look.

Hope to see you on Saturday or Sunday.

Don't forget, I will be closed on Monday.

18 May 2013

More new yarns have arrived!

I've been waiting for these yarns for almost three months.

The first is from Manos.  Alegria is a hand-dyed vari-colored yarn in the tradition of Manos. This is a superwash merino and polyamid (read nylon) fingering (sock) weight yarn. They have some wild colors that are just right for a summer project. One skein does a pair of socks (445 yds).

The second is Zen Yarn Garden. This is what some of you have been asking for.  Serenity 20 is a superwash merino, cashmere and nylon blend fingering weight yarn. These hand-dyed colors are really rich. I have been told (by Lyn) that this yarn would be great for the Color Affection Shawl on Ravelry. I think it would be great for the Rockefeller Shawl. Opinions, you know what they are worth......

Just ask and we'll show you where they are.

Don't forget that we still have Prism in as a trunk show for a little bit longer.

See you soon.

8 May 2013

It's "Sit and Knit" this coming Saturday! Rain or shine the porch will be ready. Remember, it can be raining (it's suppose to be 76) and we can still sit on the porch. No motorcycles if it is raining! Ah, the soft sound of rain.

There will be goodies, as always. Because it is suppose to be warm, we'll have iced tea available.

If you missed Maryland Sheep and Wool, I will still have my consignments here so no need to panic that you've missed something.

So come on down and have a great time with fellow knitters and crocheters.

See you Saturday May 11.

This Saturday and Sunday are "Sit and Knit" days at the shop. Just a pleasant way to spend a holiday weekend.

See you then.......

23 March 2013

Just arrived, sock and shawl bundles from The Unique Sheep! The shawl bundles are Green Sheep Fingering in the Tart Berry Gradients colorway. We’re going to work this up in a sample for the store very soon. At the request of a customer, we’ve brought in the Verve Gradients in color Glee. This happens to be the same yarn and colorway featured in the Gluttony Socks pattern from Sock Club: Join the Knitting Adventure. Aren’t they pretty?

Tell us what you think......

22 March 2013

I just thought I would remind you that we will be open Easter weekend with a Sit-And-Knit both days. If it is nice outside (who can guess with this weather) the porch will  be available.

I  often see knitters trying to pull yarn from the center of a yarn ball. Most yarn balls are not made to be pulled from the center - especially the balls shaped like a bagel.

I don't advise pulling any ball from the center. If you are knitting two strands of yarn together and it is to be knitted doubled then pulling from the center and outside will not waste yarn.

The problem I see knitters having when pulling from the center is the yarn collapse rat's nest - especially if you are traveling with the yarn. If you consider that you are hollowing out the inside of a ball, then it will eventually collapse. If the yarn plays nicely, then it might not be a problem if the yarn ball is never moved. Most balls of yarn do not play nicely when they are being moved around and the collapse makes a tangled mess.

My advise, just let the ball roll around in your knitting bag. It makes for less frustration.

So much for Spring, it's cold outside!

Aside from the cold, more Summer yarn has arrived. Rowan's Softknit Cotton has arrived. This really is the softest cotton that I've ever experienced and it will hold its shape. No more droopy cotton!

The patterns for this yarn are great. We're knitting a summer vest called "Killarney" in color Lupin (a soft lavender). Just ask and we'll show you.

Rowan Magazine No. 53 has arrived with Softknit Cotton. The magazine has all of your favorite designers including several by Kaffe Fassett.

I have a new surprise yarn arriving. I just ordered a little bit to see if you'll like the fiber and the colors. I will keep you posted as to when it arrives.

Keep warm!
