3 October 2018

You can call me crazy but my wife kept commenting on how beautiful the sweater was that I knitted for my brother. How could I refuse offering.....

The sport weight Heathers by Jagger Spun was going to be too heavy so I knitted a pattern sample using fingering weight Heathers.

I started knitting with the needle size that I used for my brother's sweater and that just wasn't working. So down a needle size and that worked perfectly. You can see how I continued to knit a gauge swatch just changing the needle size.

Armed with my new gauge (11.2 sts/inch) I made a guide for what I need to knit. Just a rough sketch for where I'm going. Oh, and yes, she wanted a cardigan. I haven't worked out how to knit the pattern on both sides of the 'button band', but I have some thoughts. I will be knitting the front edge band double wide in stockinette stitch, with a turning stitch, and folding it to the inside and sewing it down. That way the front edge of the sweater will be stabilized and the bands will have some body.

With the exception of the back, what I will do is all guess work. I'm not afraid to backup if necessary and change what I'm doing to make it work.

This will be an interesting journey. Stop by the shop and see how it's going. Want to give it a try? Let's talk.

14 January 2017

Friday the 13th passed unnoticed, and that's a good thing.

The weather apocalypse predicted for today is just that, a prediction. All we have is wet streets and no freezing rain, sleet or snow was in sight this morning. So if you're huddling in fear, fear not. We're here knitting and waiting to help you.

Lyn is finishing up the Gingersnap baby sweater using Jagger Spun Super Lamb. It's a quick knit and uses several colors of yarn. That makes the sweater fun to knit and allow you to show your creativity. You can see the sweater here on Ravelry. Simple and fun to knit!

When you stop by I can show you the progress that I've made on the Agate Ripples cardigan designed by Prism Arts. The cardigan is knit using Merino Mia, a wonderfully soft hand-dyed merino wool. The color change sequence assures that every sweater will be different. It is fun to knit and hard to stop because you want to see how the next color works into the design. Here's the design that appeared in Knitter's.

I'm knitting a different colorway than is shown in the magazine. The colorway chosen for the shop sample is called Dark Autumn and has the feel of a forest of fall leaves in full color.

All I can say is WOW! The P J Party was a big success introducing Jagger Spun Yarns. A 100% made in the U.S.A. yarn. I now have access to their complete line of yarns and I have a complete set of color cards (real ones) here in the shop.

For a very limited time I have a large consignment of their yarns at the shop - but don't delay, they have to go back soon. I will stock some of their yarns (I don't have enough room to have it all) and one of them will be Zephyr.

Zephyr is a skein dyed 50% wool and 50% Tussah Silk. It is lustrous and so soft. It come in Lace weight 50 gm (560 yds) and 100 gm (1120 yds) and in Worsted weight 50 gm (124 yds) and 100 gm (248 yds).

Don't pass up the opportunity to see all of their yarns first hand.

We even have their newest yarn (it's not on their website yet) Kokadjo a super fine, super wash wool with 10% Mulberry silk. This is a Fingering weight yarn 50 gm (218 yds). It's here at the shop for you to see - and touch.
